The squat: This comic was designed to be on the back cover of the national street newspaper Apatris, issue #51, July – August 2022. There were some basic guiding ideas given to me, which were: 1) counter-monitoring, 2) expropriation, 3) occupation, 4) power theft, 5) encrypted communication, 6) comradely interaction in the new reference point and fermentation.
I have chosen to base the visual approach on the work of Clifford Harper (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifford_Harper) and in particular his illustrations in his book Anarchism, Illustrated Guide, Select Publications.
The Player /Poem /The Trial: All three stories come from old short poems I had written and decided to turn them into comics. My original thought was to leave them without color and use them as illustrations -poems in a collection I was preparing at the time. The project was abandoned (due to lack of funds and approval from a publisher) so I added color and left them as independent comics.
The player was used as a script and basis for an animation I made in 2013 (you can see it in the corresponding section)
Night Shadows: This is a short story for two serial killers wandering around the city of Athens. It was a story i sent to the 9th competition of the comic magazine “9” (summer 2009). The story was given a certificate of distinction and was exhibited with all the other awards.
The texts are in greek. I used watercolors for the initial coloring and edited the result (for some final touches) in Photoshop.
Colors: This is a single page story for a young boy living in a foreign country. I designed it in order to sent it to a comic contest called “European Union and citizenship” (2008-2009).
The texts are in greek. I used watercolors for coloring.
Citizenship was exhibited at the Antifascist Festival in Syros, 7-11 June 2012.
Pigeon: This is a short story for a brown pigeon living in a big city like Athens. It was a story i was thinking to send to the 9th competition of the comic magazine “9” (summer 2009). Finally i changed my mind and sent the short story called Night Shadows.
The texts are in greek. I used pencils for the colors.
Pigeon was exhibited at the Antifascist Festival in Syros, 7-11 June 2012.
The train /The stranger: I sent these two comics to the competition “Strangers in the same city” of the newspaper “To Pontiki” (Spring 2010) where they received an honorable mention and were displayed together with the other prizes in the exhibition that followed. They also participated in the magazine that contained the awards and all the comics that stood out.
The two comics were presented at the Anti-Fascist Festival held in Syros on June 7-11, 2012.
Once Upon a Time: This is a 4pages story for the enthronement of a new King who deceives the citizens of his country. It was a story I sent to the 10th competition of the comic magazine “9” (summer 2010). The story was given a certificate of distinction and was exhibited with all the other awards.
